Grace shares about her Capernwray Bible School program, how NCS impacted her, and some advice for future NCS grads.

Grace Torgerson (Class of 2024) lives in Australia and attends Capernwray Bible School in New South Wales. She loves reading, drawing, pottery, writing poetry, and being outside in nature.
1. What is your fondest memory during your time at Nanaimo Christian School?
It’s a tie between hanging out with Mr. Henderson in the mornings of grade 11 before homeroom class started, or my grade 12 cooking class with Mrs. Holmberg that my friends and I took together.
2. Tell us about your Capernwray program.
I am enrolled in the Bible, Discipleship, Mission program at Capernwray Australia. It is a short-term program that equips young adults to go out into the world and spread the light of Jesus and the gospel to others. There are daily lectures, a weekly work day (gardening, cleaning), and unstructured time to connect with the other 50 students.
3. What drew you to that program?
I couldn't tell you what drew me to Capernwray other than God's crazy timing. My dad went to Capernwray in Sweden when he was younger, and he suggested it. I have always felt called to missions in Australia. The fact that I'm in Australia right now is a huge testament to God's provision and care. Capernwray Australia has completely changed my life, and I am so glad that God brought me here!
4. What's one thing you are proud of?
I've learned that I could not have gotten where I am today without Jesus' love and kindness, so I know that everything I have and am is because of God. I do, however, have a lot of things I'm grateful for.
5. In what ways did NCS shape your character or faith?
NCS taught me to genuinely question what I believe and to think for myself instead of just accepting what others say. It taught me the importance of good friends and godly relationships and how valuable those truly are. It also taught me to really examine the things that make me who I am and to invest time in the things I love. It showed me to be kind to everyone no matter the circumstances and to not judge people on face value but get to know them deeply.
6. Any encouragements for future grads?
Don't discount God's ability to change your life. Take time to firmly establish your own beliefs. Be open to what God has for your life because it is better than anything you could come up with by yourself. The things that seem SO important right now won't seem nearly as important in a year, or ten years, but God always stays the same. His faithfulness doesn't change depending on how you feel about Him, and that is the most important thing ever!
